We Continued on our Journey

This morning as we were checking out of the hotel, we saw a couple from Cleveland who were there to see their grandson graduate from a local high school. What a small world! We drove through rain as we headed to Jamestown. The "geezer pass" paid off once again by getting us into historic Jamestown.

This is the site of the first permanent settlement in North America. We dodged the raindrops as we saw statues of Pocahontas, Captain John Smith, and saw excavations of original buildings. In 1607, boats arrived from England carrying 104 colonists. We also learned about the Powhatan Indians, native to the area, helped the colony survive but also fought with them on occasion.

We then went to the Jamestown Settlement...

This is an outdoor living-history that shows a Powhatan Indian village, 3 ships that brought the original Jamestown colonists and a recreated James Fort that show the settlement during 1610-1614. Each area has reenactors dressed in period costume showing how the people lived at that time.

We only had about 2 1/2 hours there before it closed. Much more time is need there.

We checked into the hotel and then went to Uno for dinner. Rheagan chose a "make your own" pizza. Mike had fish and chips and I had Rattlesnake Pasta.

When we came back to the hotel, swimming was in order again.

Enjoy your trip!! I am not sure if I'll be able to keep up with you or not from the boat but I'll be able to catch up when I return :)
